Viral Chowksi, a Gujarati NRI made a whopping bid of Rs.1.11 crore for the controversial pinstripe monogrammed bandhgala suit which Prime Minister Narendra Modi wore during United States President Barack Obama’s visit to India last month. This bid was made on third day of auction which has commenced at an event organized by SMC’s Science Convention Centre at city-lights road in Surat from Wednesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suit along with other 455 gifts will be on auction till Friday,20 February 2015.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suit, that he wore during his meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama last month, along with other 455 items that he received as gifts during his tenure as Prime Minister will be auctioned at a three-day event in Surat," Surat Municipal Commissioner Milind Toravane told to press .
"The gift items belonging to Prime Minister Modi is a national treasure and the money generated from the auction will be utilized for the Clean Ganga Mission", he added.
The expensive suit of Prime Minister Modi, which he wore during the US President visit had triggered a debate among the political opponents
The cleaning of India’s holiest river, Ganga had been taken as an election promise by BJP. Since Prime Minister Modi’s party came to center, nothing much has been done with respect to the cleaning of river Ganga. The purpose for which the suit is auctioned gives a whopping amount to the center so that the cleaning of the Ganga starts right away.
