Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah on Friday has accepted the resignation O.Panneerselvam as Chief Minister and invited the newly elected leader of the legislature party of AIADMK Selvi J.Jayalalithaa to form the ministry at the earliest, as per the Raj Bhavan statement.
The Raj Bhavan has issued two notices, one about the resignation of current CM O. Panneerselvam and his council of ministers and asked them to function until alternative arrangements are made.
The Governor also requested Jayalalithaa to send the list of people to be appointed as ministers with their portfolios.
Today morning at 7 am the lawmakers of AIADMK have elected Jayalalithaa as the leader of the legislature party when Panneerselvam proposed her as the candidate.
She is likely to contest from the Radhakrishnan Nagar assembly constituency, which was vacated on May 17, P. Vetrivel, AIADMK party legislator. She earlier represented Srirangam constituency, but she ceased to be an MLA after the special trial court in Bengaluru, convicted her in a disproportionate assets case.
She was sentenced to four-year jail term along with Rs.100 crore fine.
The Karnataka High Court has accepted her appeal, and announced her acquittal followed by a thorough examination!
Jayalalithaa is likely to swear-in as Chief Minister on Sunday.
