Trump Slams On Chicago Violence

President Donald Trump slammed  on Chicago violence as he kicked off African American History Month at the White House Wednesday during a meeting with African American ministers. Chicago officials said they would welcome the help.

County Commissioner, Richard Boykin said that,  he reached out to White House proposing a plan for a federal task force. He also said that, he got a response and is optimistic a meeting in next.

Trump started focusing on Chicago when talking about violence in America. Trump said, "We're gonna have to do something about Chicago because what's happening in Chicago should not be happening in this country."

When it comes to the gun violence and murder rates per 100,000 residents, Chicago is a middle of the pack city, despite of all the attention it receives. In response to comments, Mayor Rahm Emanuel pointed out that the violence is not a citywide problem.

Rev. Corey Brooks, New Beginnings Church said, "There is a perception that Chicago is out of control when you compare it to other large cities like Los Angeles and New York."

Darrel Scott, Cleveland area minister, and also a longtime supporter of Trump, claimed he had been contacted by several Chicago gang leaders who want to curb violence with Trump's help.

"I was recently contacted by some of the top gang thugs in Chicago for a sitdown," Pastor Darrell Scott said.

Brooks knows Scott and said that, he suspects Chicago gang leaders are trying to reach Trump for help.

Lavondale Glass, a community activist said, "You know, they calls us GDs or Gangster Disciples. But no, we're family."

Glass, aged 43, said he has not spoken to Scott or anyone in the Trump administration, but he said the young men in his neighborhood want job and want the White House to bypass local politicians and speak directly to them.

Emanuel repeated that, city would welcome more federal resources to combat violence in the few neighborhoods where most of it occurs.

On Wednesday night, Scott backtracked on his comments, saying that sleep deprivation made him misspeak and he had only spoke to one gang leader.

The conversation took place when the Chicago Police Department released its crime statistics for the first month of 2017. Police recorded 51 murders and 299 shooting victims all across the city in the last month. In the last week, President Donald Trump (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump) tweeted he would "send in the Feds" if the city's violence problems don't improve.
