As all opposition parties are demanding to go back to ballot papers in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Chief Election commissioner of India Sunil Arora made it clear that the election commission will not go back to the ballot papers.
However, speaking at an event in New Delhi, Arora rejected the demands saying, “I would like to make it very clear that we are not going back to the era of ballot papers.”
He further added that, “We will continue to use EVMs and VVPATs. We are open to any criticism and feedback from any stakeholder including political parties. At the same time, we are not going to be intimidated, bullied or coerced into giving up these and start era of ballot papers.”
The new demand enhanced after claims of US-Based caber expert who held press conference in London claiming that 2014 elections were rigged,EVMs can be hacked.
However, Election commission of India rejected all claims made by US-Based Cyber expert.
Amid all these allegations Election commission approached Delhi Police to file a complaint against that particular person.
"Based on a complaint filed on Tuesday by the Election Commission, an FIR has been registered under Section 505 of the Indian Penal Code (intent to cause fear or public mischief) at Parliament Street police station. Action will be taken as per the law," a senior police officer said.
On Thursday, Sunil Arora added that EVMs should not be used as a “football" to further a motivated slugfest. He also said that while the Commission was open to getting feedback, he said that the poll watchdog will not get intimidated or bullied.
As Lok Sabha polls are due this year in months to come many opposition parties may raise their concern over use of EVMs in elections.
