Most of the people who got contracted with coronavirus during the second wave have witnessed post-covid symptoms for months. Several cases of black fungus have been reported in India in the recent weeks. Now three cases of avascular necrosis or death of bone tissues are reported in Mumbai. The health experts fear that more cases of AVN will be reported in the coming months. Three youngsters below the age of 40 developed avascular necrosis two months after they are treated for coronavirus. They are treated in Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital currently. They developed pain in their femur bone which happens to be the highest part of the thigh bone.

AVN and Black fungus are caused due to the use of steroids during the treatment for coronavirus. Dr Sanjay Agarwala who is treating these cases said that AVN is caused due to the excessive use of life saving corticosteroids among those who are contracted with coronavirus. 30 among the 264 patients who are treated for mucormycosis in Government Hospital, Coimbatore lost vision for one of the eyes due to severe infection. The doctors said that all those who are coming for treatment at an early stage got cured for the disease. Approximately, ten lakh vials of Liposomal Amphotericin B are allocated for the states by the government to treat mucormycosis.
