Draupadi Murmu created a sensation and she emerged as the first tribal woman to take the oath as the new President of the country. Draupadi Murmu took oath as the 15th President of the country today in the Parliament Central Hall in the presence of outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind. Indian Chief Justice NV Ramana administered the oath taking ceremony. Draupadi Murmu before leaving to the Parliament reached the Rashtrapathi Bhavan and she was welcomed by Mr and Mrs Kovind. Ram Nath Kovind accompanied Draupadi Murmu to the Parliament Hall. The duo had a brief meeting before they reached the Parliament.
Draupadi Murmu before this, paid her tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, Governors along with officials and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended the oath taking ceremony of Draupadi Murmu. During her address, Draupadi Murmu said that it is a honour to take the charge as the Indian President. She took charge at the time India will be celebrating its 75 years of independence. "I am the first President to be born in independent India. Reaching the post of President is not my achievement and it is the achievement of every poor in the country. Everyone can fulfill their dreams in the country" told Draupadi Murmu during her address.
