The Election Commission of India on Monday issued a letter to Karnataka Congress President asking the clarification on Sonia Gandhi’s “Karnataka Sovereignty” social media tweet. ECI asks the Congress Chairperson to rectify the tweet on her social media handle. The letter was issued by EC only after BJP filed the complaint against Sonia Gandhi’s comments.

BJP asked Election Commission to take immediate action on the statements and also asked to file an FIR over her remarks. Shobha Karandlaje submitted the complaint and according to her Sonia Gandhi breached the code of conduct. Sonia Gandhi passed the statements in Hubbali on Saturday while she was campaigning for the upcoming Karnataka elections, which will be held on the 10th of May. Congress on the same day tweeted her statements on social media and BJP felt that the tweet affect the 6.5cr Kannadigas.

"The Congress will not allow anyone to pose a threat to Karnataka's reputation, sovereignty or integrity," was the tweet by the Congress along with some of the images of Sonia Gandhi from the public gathering.

Karnataka BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel also served the notice on the advertisement made by Congress on ‘The Hindu’ with unsubstantiated claims. ECI on Sunday advised not to publish such unverified advertisements.

On flipside, Congress filed a complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused of making false statements on Congress in a public meeting in Mysuru. All the campaigns going to come to an end today and exit polls predict that Congress will form the government in the state. DK Shiv Kumar and Siddhiramaiah are Chief minister candidates of Congress.
