Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took a dig at opposition parties, highlighting the remarkable shift in the mobile phone industry in India. He stated that currently, approximately 99% of mobile phones used in the country are domestically manufactured, which is a significant change from a decade ago when 98% were imported. Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of recognizing the employment opportunities created by the mobile phone industry, with 250,000 individuals directly employed in this sector. He also pointed out that India's growth in the value chain is consistently increasing.

Furthermore, Vaishnaw mentioned that some prominent leaders in the opposition still hold the belief that mobile phones are imported, ignoring the reality of the situation. Additionally, he expressed that India now has the potential for export-led growth in the electronic sector. To illustrate the success of the 'Make In India' program initiated by Prime Minister Modi, Vaishnaw highlighted that a decade ago, 98% of mobile phones used in the country were imported, whereas today, 99.2% of mobile phones are manufactured in India. In unrelated news, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., the manufacturer of iPhones, made headlines.

Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., is planning to invest roughly NT$50 billion (equivalent to ₹13,300 crore) in various construction projects as a means to expand its operations in India. This strategic decision is in line with the broader trend of Taiwanese electronics manufacturers, including Foxconn, seeking to diversify their production outside of China due to escalating tensions between the United States and China. Furthermore, Foxconn has been actively manufacturing iPhones in India for a considerable period, including the most recent model, the iPhone 15.
