The Indian startup scene keeps getting stronger and leading in 2025, with the total number of government-approved startups exceeding 200,000, as mentioned by Union Minister Piyush Goyal in a post on X, calling it ‘an amazing achievement to end 2025!’. A remarkable aspect of this year is that over 44,000 businesses earned recognition in 2025, the highest in a single year since the Startup India program began. In his post, Goyal pointed out that nearly half of these startups have at least one female director or partner. “These startups have also created more than 2.1 million direct jobs," he noted. The Minister reported that over Rs 25,320 crore was invested in more than 1,350 startups through Alternative Investment Funds as part of the Fund of Funds for Startups Scheme in 2025. Additionally, Rs 775 crore was provided through the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Startups. Under the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme, a total of Rs 585 crore was allocated to more than 3,200 startup applications submitted by incubators.
There was also a rise in innovation and patent applications in 2025, with startups filing over 16,400 new patent requests. The government provided equal opportunities to more than 34,800 recognized startups by bringing them onto the Government eMarketplace platform. “As we look forward to a new year, this spirit of creativity and entrepreneurship will keep driving growth, chances, and prosperity for everyone," Goyal finished his post with a video. The Startup India initiative supports startups through various programs focused on building skills, enhancing outreach, and encouraging collaboration in the ecosystem.
