Fourteen villagers along with a soldier got killed at a firing that took place in the Indo-Myanmar border in Nagaland. One among them died after a mob attacked the Rifles Camp of Assam. After the incident, public gathering is banned in the Mon district of Nagaland. 144 Section of the Criminal Procedure Code is imposed. The government of Nagaland filed a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter and the case is transferred to the Crime Branch. All the activities of the Hornbill festival stands canceled till the midnight of Monday told the government of Nagaland. The Indian Army sent Special Forces for a counter operation in Mon district.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who is in Delhi returned back to the state and he visited the Mon district today. Mobile internet along with SMS services are blocked to stop the speculation of the rumors. "Anguished over an unfortunate incident in Nagaland's Oting, Mon. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives. A high-level SIT constituted by the State govt will thoroughly probe this incident to ensure justice to the bereaved families" tweeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Chief Minister Rio tweeted "The unfortunate incident leading to the killing of civilians at Oting, Mon is highly condemnable. Condolences to the bereaved families & speedy recovery of those injured. High-level SIT will investigate & justice delivered as per the law of the land. Appeal for peace from all sections,". The Centre announced a compensation of Rs 11 lakhs for the families of the civilians and the locals blocked the roads in Kohima.
