Meerut-Lucknow Rajya Rani Express derails in UP April 15, 2017 10:52

At least eight coaches of the Meerut-Lucknow Rajya Rani Express derailed on Saturday morning in Uttar Pradesh. The train derailed between Rampur and Mundapana, near a bridge over the Koshi River. No casualties have been reported so far. Railways minister Suresh Prabhu tweets: “Personally monitoring the situation. Directed senior officers to rush to the spot.Ensure speedy relief and rescue operations,” adding that an enquiry has been ordered into the incident and strict action will be taken against defaulters, if any. A rescue train has been arranged for the passengers and fortunately no major injuries have been reported yet, said Neeraj Sharma, CPRO, Northern Railways. -Trains delayed due to the derailment. -Ministry of railways, says no casualties reported. -At least 10 people were sustained minor injuries in the accident. -No casualties have been reported so far. A few injured passengers have been admitted to the nearby district hospital. The accident is the latest string of similar incidents the public transporter has suffered in recent months. In November last year, at least 142 people were killed and more than 200 were injured, when 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna Express derailed in Dehat, Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. In January, at least 32 died and more than 50 were injured, when Bhubaneswar Express derailed in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. Last month, nearly 50 were injured, when eight coaches of the Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Mahakaushal Express derailed in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh. 24,000 Indians still in six war-torn countries April 07, 2017 10:45

The Indian government announced on Tuesday that there are 28,084 Indians currently residing in sex war-torn regions, including in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs General V. K. Singh (retired) said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that approximately there are about 11,000 Indians in Iraq, an estimated 8,000 are in Lebanon and 3,000 are in Afghanistan. As per information available with the ministry, 27 Indians were kidnapped during 2015, 2016 and 2017, said Singh, while responding top a separate query on Incidents of Indians being taken hostage in foreign countries. The minister said that one of the kidnapped continues to be in captivity in Yemen since 2016, while 25 have been released and one has died. Iran releases 15 Indian fishermen April 03, 2017 13:31

15 fishermen from Tamil Nadu, who were arrested in October last year for entering Iranian waters without permission have been released, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted on Monday. “I am happy to inform that Iran has released our fifteen fishermen from Tamil Nadu. They were detained with their three Bahrani boats who were arrested with their three Bahraini boats,” Ms Swaraj tweeted. The 15 fishermen released during the weekend were among 37 other Indian fishermen, who were arrested in the waters near Iran last year. Iranian coast guards arrested Indian fishermen on October 22nd, when they were on their way from Bahrain to Sharjah. The court order came within a week after India released a British citizen of Iranian-origin, who was facing charges in India. With the release of these 15 fishermen, Iran now has 22 other Indian fishermen in its custody, who were detained between August 2016 and January 2017. The release of fishermen is a positive sign for India-Iran ties following Iran’s objection to former Pakistani Army Chief General Raheel Sharif for joining the Saudi-led coalition of Islamic forces. A strong earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale today (March 14th) hit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A unit of the Ministry of Earth Sciences the earthquake’s epicenter was in the Nicobar Islands region, occurred at 8:21 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the National Center of Seismology.
