Billionaire Gautam Adani's Adani Group revealed on Tuesday, February 17, that they plan to invest $100 billion by the year 2035 to create large data centres powered by renewable energy specifically designed for artificial intelligence (AI). The group stated that this project aims to establish a long-lasting energy and computing framework, putting India at the forefront of the upcoming "Intelligence Revolution" globally. A statement from Adani Enterprises indicated that this investment could generate an extra $150 billion in related fields, such as server production, advanced electrical systems, government cloud services, and related businesses. Altogether, this could lead to a $250 billion ecosystem for AI infrastructure in India over the next ten years. “We are moving forward from our starting point in green energy and data centres to develop a complete five-layer AI system, with a strong emphasis on India's technological independence. India will not only use AI — we will create, construct, and send intelligence to other countries," stated Gautam Adani, who is the Chairman of the Adani Group.

The plan builds upon AdaniConnex’s current network of national data centres with 2 GW capacity, with a goal to increase this to 5 GW. The group is working with Google to create what they call India's largest AI data centre campus with gigawatt capacity in Visakhapatnam and other facilities in Noida. They are also partnering with Microsoft to enhance AI-focused data centre infrastructure in Hyderabad and Pune. Moreover, Adani intends to strengthen its collaboration with Flipkart by developing a second AI data centre aimed at boosting next-generation digital shopping, high-performance computing, and large-scale AI tasks. At 1:30 PM, the shares of Adani Enterprises were up by 2.30%, trading at Rs 2,235 each on the BSE following the announcement.
