Someone has rightly said, "Better late than never!" Finally the time has come for grunge and glam rock to make its way into the much coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2014.
Announcing the winners, the Rock Hall named the final choices late yesterday. And from the angst-ridden, alternative rockers like Nirvana to big-hair, make-up slathered pop metal band Kiss, the induction list can't get any more diverse this time.
Other artists to make their debut in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2014 are experimental artist and multiple Grammy Awards winner Peter Gabriel, blue-eyed-soul hitmakers Hall & Oates, British folk singer Cat Stevens and pop star Linda Ronstadt.
While for bands like Kiss and Hall & Pates, it's been one helluva long wait, taking years to make a cut into the Hall of Fame, for the first-timers Nirvana, it has been a fairly smooth ride.
Though Kurt Cobain's Nirvana, like Ronstadt and KISS have sold more than 20 million albums, the chart success and legacy of the band is far bigger than any others. Responsible for bringing grunge into the mainstream, Nirvana has been described as the most influential band in rock & roll history.
Apparently, the musicians are taken into consideration for the honor only 25 years after the release of their first album or single. Nirvana's first single, 'Love Buzz', was released in 1988, so the band is being inducted at the first opportunity. And deservingly so.
The long list of nominees who failed to make it to the coveted list this year are Replacements, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, N.W.A., LL Cool J, the Zombies, Deep Purple, Link Wray, the Meters, and Yes.
The artists will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on the 29th induction ceremony that will take place on April 10 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and will be telecasted on HBO in May next year.
