'Homeland' actor James Rebhorn died on Friday due to skin cancer at the age of 65. The veteran character actor played the role of Carrie's dad in the popular spy thriller 'Homeland'.

He died at home in New Jersey, said his agent Dianne Busch.

The renouned actor has a career spanning decades acting in television and film. Besides 'Homeland', Rebhorn's recent work includes 'White Collar' and 'Enlightened'.

His career began with daytime soap operas and was popular in shows like 'Guiding Light', 'Search for Tomorrow' and 'The Doctors'.

Rebhorn played the role of a district attorney in 'Seinfeld', where he sent Jerry and company to prison at the climax of the series. While in 'Law & Order' he will be remembered for portraying the role of Charles Garnett

James Rebhorn had acted in movies like 'Basic Instinct', 'Scent of a Woman', 'Guarding Tess' and 'My Cousin Vinny'.
