Baz Luhrmann is likely to direct a China-centric movie soon. The Australian filmmaker is in negotiations to direct 'Kung Fu' for Legendary Pictures.

The movie will be a large-screen adaptation of the original TV series 'Kung Fu' that was telecast in the 1970s. If Luhrmann takes up the project then he will rewrite the script, written by John McLaughlin .

Luhrmann, known for his stylized storytelling , is expected to bring his own signature style to the martial arts Western.

David Carradine had starred in original martial arts Western drama TV show. He played the role of Kwai Chang Caine, a Shaolin monk, who travels to the American West looking for his half brother.

In the TV show, Kwai's training as a teen is shown in flashbacks. His master used to call him “young grasshopper”. The show gained a cult following on ABC, which aired it from 1972 to 1975.

The present script shows Kwai in China looking for his father. He even ends up in a prison where he has to uses his fighting skill to survive.
