Ava DuVernay, the director of movie "Selma" pictured on the life of the Martin Luther King, is set to again team up with the film's star David Oyelowo for a new project about Hurricane Katrina.

DuVernay and Oyelowo, the both are finalists at this year's Golden Globes, will "develop a new narrative feature film chronicling a sweeping love story and complex murder mystery during the time of Hurricane Katrina," Participant Media said Monday.

The proposed project will be the third after "Middle of Nowhere" and "Selma", which has been nominated for this year's Academy Award for Best Picture.

"Hurricane Katrina is one of the most important social and environmental stories of our time," said one of the new film's producers, Jonathan King.

DuVernay has shown herself to be highly skilled and efficient director in bringing intimacy and contemporary urgency to epic events. The director said the film would "explore the complexities of intimate relationships within times of chaos, while also examining the chaos itself."

Participant Media said Oyelowo, 38, was in negotiations to produce and star in the film.

Hurricane Katrina which occurred in 2005 was the deadliest and most destructive Atlantic tropical cyclone. It is the costliest natural disaster, as well as one of the five deadliest hurricanes, in the history of the United States.
