Nonstop rainfall in the catchment areas of Assam further worsened flood situation in the state. Nearly three lakh population across 13 districts of Assam was affected.

As per a report from Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Brahmaputra river at Nematighat in Jorhat and Dibrugarh districts was flowing beyond the danger level. And a rising trend is observed in other districts. River flowing above ‘the red mark’ include Puthimari in Kamrup, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur and Beki in Barpeta.

Flood affect in Assam

Severely affected districts in Assam due to floods include Chirang, Kokrajhar, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Nalbari, Barpeta, Sivasagar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Jorhat, Tinsukia and Lakhimpur.

In 611 villages, 2,96,929 people were affected. Farmland across 27,087.13 hectares is under flood waters. A total of 187 villages in the Kokrajhar district are under flood waters, where as 137 villages in Dhemaji and113 villages in Bongaigaon are flood affected areas.

The flood affected districts also reported damaged roads, bridges and embankments. Five people died due to floods, two in Lakhimpur and one each in Baksa, Bongaigaon and Sonitpur.

Army enters for rescue in flood-hit Assam

A total of 124 relief camps were opened by the respective flood-hit district administrations where a total of 84,779 people have taken shelter.

Assam Government has called in the Indian army for rescue and relief efforts in the flood-hit areas of the state.
