Three India’s tech giants Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys and Wipro have joined the ambitious 'computer science for all' plan, initiated by the US President, Barak Obama. The initiative is a part of a public-private collaboration that assures thousands of dollars in grants.
The president announced the 'Computer Sciences for All' plan during his weekly address on Saturday. Obama described the subject as a "basic skill", while introducing the plan. He stressed on the need of teaching the subject to all children, nationwide.
The White house revealed on Saturday that, Infosys has pledged a donation of $1 million and TCS is providing its supports in the grant formation for the teachers in around 27 cities in the US, while, Wipro in partnership with the Michigan University, announced a donation of $2.8 million for the multi-year project.
The White house said that, "Infosys Foundation USA will be a founding member of this public-private collaboration with a $1 million philanthropic donation, and, as an initial participant, Tata Consultancy Services is providing additional support in the form of grants to teachers in 27 US cities.”
"This collaboration will ultimately provide opportunities for as many as 2,000 middle- and high school teachers to deepen their understanding of CS," said the White added.
The member of the Board of Wipro Ltd and the chief executive officer, T K Kurien, said that, "Wipro is committed to being an involved participant in its communities. This initiative seeks to develop and inspire young people to contribute to excellence in STEM education.”
