Volkswagen India is set to recall 3,877 Vento cars with manual gearbox and 1.5-litre diesel engine, because of inconsistent Carbon Monoxide (CO) emissions. The firm would also halt the model sales with an immediate effect.
In a statement, the company said that, some times, the emissions are crossing the threshold limits at the time of he Conformity of Production tests, which are done by ARAI.
The company said, “At the same time, Volkswagen India is temporarily holding back sales of the manual gearbox version of the Volkswagen Vento with 1.5-litre diesel engine with immediate effect.”
The issue is being analyzed by the company to propose technical measures to ARAI. The company is looking to solve the inconsistency as early as possible. After getting approval and conformation from the competent authorities, measures would be implemented by Volkswagen India to resume the production as well as sales of the model.
“The same technical measures will also be implemented in the impacted vehicles that are already with customers,” the company said.
According to Volkswagen India, the manual gearbox version of Vento with 1.5-litre diesel engine is the one impacted and has no connection with the global NOx emissions topic.
Volkswagen India said, “All other diesel models and variants of Volkswagen India, including Vento 1.5 TDI with automatic transmission (DSG) and all diesel Polo cars, conform to the norms and will continue to be produced and sold in India.”
