2.22 lakh new Coronavirus cases reported in India

The second wave of coronavirus is not calming down and the new daily tally of cases are rock steady. A total number of 2,22,315 new cases of coronavirus are reported in the country in the last 24 hours in India and the total tally of cases reached 2,67,52,447. The total number of discharges reached 2,37,28,011 after 3,02,544 people got discharged in the last 24 hours. The discharges and the deaths continued to be high in the last two weeks though the tally of cases came down from 4 lakh per day. 4454 deaths are reported in India in the last 24 hours and the total death tally reached 3,03,720. The total number of active cases for coronavirus are 27,20,716. The total number of people who took up the vaccination doses in India are 19,60,51,962.

India becomes the third country after Brazil and the United States of America to report more than 3 lakh deaths. More than 90,000 deaths are reported in India in May 2021 and 80 lakh new cases are reported in the country. Tamil Nadu (35,483), Maharashtra (26,672), Karnataka (25,979), Kerala (25,820) and Andhra Pradesh (18,767) are the states that reported a high number of coronavirus cases in the country in the last 24 hours. The scarcity for the hospital beds, vaccinations, oxygen cylinders continued to be high. There are long queues for funerals and the crematoriums are packed with dead bodies. The black fungus emerged as the new concern for the Indian government as the new cases are reportingly high.

The positivity rate of the country is at 11.53 percent. As per the reports from the Indian Council of Medical Research, the total samples tested in India till date are said to be 33,05,36,064 and the samples tested in India in the last 24 hours are 19,28,127.
