Skin is a sensitive organ of your body. It bears the brunt of pollution and over-exposure to sunlight. While sunlight is essential for your body as it helps in producing Vitamin D. But prolonged exposure may cause skin tan and in worse case even give you sunburn. Even if you spend 15 minutes under the sun, you may get sun tan and if the period exceeds then you will get sunburnt.

Sunscreen

Prevention is the best cure when it comes to beauty care. Always apply a sunscreen, at least 20 minutes, before heading out in the sun. If the sunscreen gets washed by water or you tend to sweat then reapply. However, if you are already suffering from sunburn then here are a few home remedies to prevent aggravation of your condition.

Drink water

Keep the sunburnt area cool and moisturised. But don't rub the area. Drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated. Try to consume at least 10 glasses of water daily. If you find it difficult to drink plain water, flavour it with a few drops of lime.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is a great home remedy for treating sunburns. This natural remedy has cooling properties that works as a healing agent. Use the gel of a freshly cut aloe vera and apply on the sunburnt area twice daily.

Avoid soap or scrubbing

Your skin is very sensitive during this time. So stay away from soap as it causes dryness and irritation to your skin. Don't use the loofah or bath sponge when you are suffering from sunburn. After a bath use a soft towel to gently dry your body. It's advisable to opt for a cool shower and give the bath tub a miss for some time. Using a bath tub may aggravate your condition as you may soak yourself for a longer period that will cause itching and peeling of skin.

After a shower, use moisturizer to soothe your skin. Opt for moisturizing lotions that are rich in vitamins C or E for maximum benefit to your skin.
