Anything from the food you eat to your poor dental hygiene can make your mouth stink like a stinkhole. If you truly wish to overcome this embarrassing problem, then figuring out what causes halitosis - the fancy medical word for stinky breath - in the first place could help you fight with it better. So watch out for these potential causes:
Poor Oral Care
Oral care isn't a secondary option. It's a must! Food, if not properly cleaned from mouth, can serve as a perfect place for bacteria to latch onto. Since bacteria breed in wet, warm environments, these bacteria will in turn produce sulfur inside the mouth that can cause a stomach-churning stench in the mouth. To prevent that, brush and floss twice daily and don't miss out on cleaning your tongue too.
You are dehydrated
Being dehydrated or not drinking enough water can cause your mouth to dry and produce very little saliva, which can wash off the smelly bacteria from the insides of your mouth. Not making enough saliva can cause the cells in the mouth to die causing a rotten stench and compounding your bad breath. So drink a lot of water.
You have a sinus or tonsil infection
Sometimes internal infection can lead to bad stench in the mouth. Sinuses, tonsils can make your mouth stink big time. To avoid that, do an old-fashioned salt-water gargle everyday as the high salt content kills bacteria, rinses mouth and encourages the production of good bacteria.
