The Netherlands had great hope of playing theWorld Cup final match on Sunday. But destiny had other plans. They lost 4-2 in penalties to Argentina.

Dutch striker Arjen Robben is heartbroken and lamented his team's "grim" exit from the World Cup. The Netherlands lost to Argentina in the semi-final match in Sao Paulo, on Wednesday.

After the game Robben said that it hurts as they had given everything to the match that evening. Besides it's 'grim' going out that way, said the striker to Dutch television.

The Netherlands were knocked out of the World Cup after losing on penalties following a goalless draw played for 120 minutes.

Dutch defender Ron Vlaar said that the loss is unbelievable and tough. But that's what sports is all about, said Vlaar.

Vlaar, who missed the first penalty, says he was not nervous and concentrated hard. The ball had to go in but it didn't.
