For the first time an Indian woman became world number one in badminton rankings. The ranking came to her as the world number one Carolina Marin lost in Indian Open Super Series semifinal. Interestingly the Saina’s rank will remain top irrespective of the result in her fight with Japan's Yui Hashimoto in the second semifinal today.

In the past Prakash Padukone was number one in badminton rankings from India, hence Saina became first woman players to get this achievement.
