Ask anyone which mobile company is India's leading phone vendor and the answer would be an unanimous Samsung. We are afraid, not quite so.

Micromax and not Samsung has sold the highest number of phones in India, reveals a study by Counterpoint Research. That said, when it comes to smartphones, Samsung still rules the roost.

According to the study report, “the smartphone segment grew at 68 percent annually in Q2 2014 in India and Indian brands captured more than two-thirds of the total mobile phone shipments and more than half of the smartphone shipments.”

Not just that, Micromax has emerged as the the leading mobile phone supplier brand in India in Q2 2014, surpassing even Samsung.

Micromax is also the leading feature phone supplier beating Nokia for the first time.

As far as Samsung is concerned, globally Q2 hasn’t been very good. It’s profits have slumped as users are now flocking for devices. And now with Chinese players like Xiaomi, Gionee, etc, venturing into India, smartphone market in India is surely in for some radical changes.
