A Salvadorean nun in Italy gave birth to a baby boy in a hospital following complains of stomach cramps at her convent this week. The nun said that she had no idea that she was pregnant, according to reports in Italian media. The fellow nuns were also reportedly "very surprised" about the incident. The baby was born on Wednesday, reported La Repubblica.

The nun, who is a mother now, reportedly said to the hospital that she didn't know of her pregnancy and that she had only felt a stomach pain, reported ANSA (Italian news agency). The nun named the child Francesco (Francis), the chosen name of the current Pope and a popular name in Italy, as St. Francis of Assisi is the national patron saint and loved by the people of the country.

Belonging to Campomoro's "Little Disciples of Jesus" convent, located near Rieti, the nun said she would keep the child with her. According to media reports, Rieti hospital has started collecting donations and clothes for the nun and her child. Both the nun, 31-year-old mother, as well as her baby is doing well. The baby boy weighs 3.5 kilograms (9 pounds). However, there has been no comments from the hospital, which couldn't be reached by media.
