The government announced the list of 104 persons for Padma awards. President Pranab Mukharjee approved the conferment of Padma awards for this year.

The Awards are given in various disciplines – art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.

Padma Awards follows the order in the list of highest civilian awards after Bharat Ratna. Among the Padma Awards Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhusan and Padma Shri are follows the order.

Shri Narendra Modi led Indian government clearly given the priority to the veterans and reputed personalities like Shri LK Advani (one of the founders of BJP), Shri Prakash Singh Badal (Punjab CM and senior politician), Shri Amitabh Bachchan, Shri Bill Gates, Ms. Melinda Gates, etc.

Padma Awards were instituted in the year 1954. These awards have been announced every year on Republic day. Padma Vibhushan is considered second degree honour, Padma Bhushan is the third degree honour, and Padma Shri is fourth degree honour after the Bharat Ratna.
