Indian woman wins lawsuit on gender discrimination against Wipro

An Indian-woman, who was  formerly a techie at India’s third-largest IT services exporter, Wipro office in London claimed that, she has won a lawsuit on  gender discrimination against the company. Shreya Ukil (40) accused the company of gender discrimination, victimization and unequal pay.

Her counsel Slater Gordon, said in a statement that, "The Wipro leadership team, including its (then) chief executive T.K. Kurien, conspired to push Ukil out of her job and her role in Britain."

“A senior female executive who took on Wipro, a large outsourcing firm, has won an equal pay, sex discrimination, unfair dismissal and victimization case which she brought against her former employer” adding that the judgment found that, “direction (to sack the lady) had come from the very top and was followed through with considerable resolve.” the statement said.

On the other hand, company also claimed its victory over the issue and said in a statement, that, “Wipro is pleased that the UK Employment Tribunal has upheld the dismissal of the complainant from the services of the organization as appropriate and rejected claims of adverse cultural attitude towards women in the organization.”

Ukil worked with Wipro for almost 10 years. She earned  numerous performance awards and also won multi-million-dollar contracts for the firm.
