
Britain got a new prime minister! Theresa May was formally appointed as the Prime Minister of the Britain. She is the second British female prime minister after Margaret Thatcher in 1990.
"It's not been an easy journey, and of course we've not got every decision right," said former Prime Minister David Cameron during the formal ceremony.
May said after she officially became prime minister, that, "We are living through an important moment in our country's history." "Following the referendum we face a time of great national change."
She said in her first public speech as PM, that, "The government I lead will be driven, not by the interests of the privileged few, but by yours. We will do everything we can to give you more control over your lives.
"When we take the big calls, we'll think not of the powerful, but you.”
"When we pass new laws, we'll listen not to the mighty, but to you. When it comes to taxes, we'll prioritize not the wealthy, but you.”
"When it comes to opportunity, we won't entrench the advantages of the fortunate few, we will do everything we can to help anybody, whatever your background, to go as far as your talents will take you."
Prime Minister Theresa has begun her full day at in Downing Street. A Downing Street spokesman said Mrs May had "emphasised her commitment to delivering the will of the British people to leave the European Union".
"The prime minister explained that we would need some time to prepare for these negotiations and spoke of her hope that these could be conducted in a constructive and positive spirit," the spokesman added.
