House Passes 9/11 Bill, Let Victims’ Families Sue Saudi Arabia!

The House passed a bill that will allow the families of September 11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia or other countries for any role in the attacks, setting up a possible veto battle with the White House.

The legislation was passed by voice vote with leaders calling it a “moral imperative” to allow victims’ families to seek justice for the deaths of loved ones as the country marks the 15th anniversary of the attacks that brought down the World Trade Center towers and damaged the Pentagon.

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer of New York, a member of Senate Democratic leadership, said that, “There are always diplomatic considerations that get in the way of justice, but if a court proves the Saudis were complicit in 9/11 they should be held accountable.” “If they’ve done nothing wrong, they have nothing to worry about,” Mr. Schumer said.

“We are hopeful the president will consider the thoughtful changes the Senate made to address the concerns the Administration had raised, and the resounding judgment of Congress that [the bill] is good policy.” said the attorney, Sean Carter.

The Washington post reported, Terry Strada, who lost her husband in the attacks and is national chair of the organization for victims’ families that is bringing a lawsuit against Saudi Arabia, said that, “This is more important than campaigning.”  “You can campaign after. You will never have a chance to pass (the bill) again. This is the priority.”
