‘A Day without women’ planned in Denver

National organizers who conducted the Women’s March in January are now calling for women to take the day off and encouraging them not to spend money on Wednesday to demonstrate their economic strength and impact on American society.

Thousands of women across the nation are planning to participate in the protest on International Women’s day.

March on Colorado is encouraging its supporters to participate in the protest "Day Without a Woman", inspired by the recent “Day Without Immigrant” protests.

Participants are expected to gather at the State Capitol. Organizers hopes to call the attention towards growing economic injustice faced by women such as lower wages, gender discrimination, sexual harassment and job insecurities.

“On March 8th we will once again honor and join forces with those that are organizing the International Women's Strike...our demand is simple...Equal Pay for Equal Work. Here in Denver we will have a Silent March on the Capitol, Free Self-Care Workshops and Coaching, and encourage women to get together for a Girl's Day spent doing what they love,” local organizers said on Facebook.

They suggest women to take a off on Wednesday and avoid shopping (with exceptions for small, women-and-minority-owned businesses.) Women are also encouraged to wear red in solidarity.

Lisa Cutter spoke on behalf of March on Colorado said that the main goal is to continue engaging with the hundreds of thousands of protestors, who have participated in the January march and to bring a change for women and minorities who are treated unfairly.

The Goal is to impact lives, she said. The impact is already being felt in other parts of the country, she added.

Denver Public Schools announced that it has not seen a spike in substitute or guest teacher requests for Wednesday.

According to Fortune article the economy of the United States could impact at $21 billion in GDP, if all paid women in USA participated in the strike.
