WestJet Airlines Limited To Launch Flights To China?

WestJet Airlines Limited is asking the Transport Canada for legal approval to launch the flights to China.

Gregg Saretsky, CEO of WestJet Airlines Limited, has made his comment out at the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade on Friday. Saretsky said that offering flights to Asia with the lie-flat seats will allow the airline to add up a luxury option to the airlines mostly economical offerings.

"We have entered into the process with Transport Canada, and Transport Canada will soon engage the Chinese delegation from Beijing, and before too long we hope to be bringing back the specifics to you," Saretsky said.

Saretsky did not announce neither the cities of China in which the airline would fly into, nor the potential launch date of the flights.

Saretsky said that the plan is "in-sync with what the Canadian federal government has on its agenda, which is to double the number of inbound arrivals from China by 2022."

In the last month, WestJet Airlines Limited has announced that, it had placed a firm order for 10 Boeing Dreamliners, which will have the range and fuel efficiency to serve the new destinations in Asia, South America and also expand the airline's presence in the Europe.

WestJet Airlines first Dreamliner 787s would be delivered between the first quarter of 2019 and December 2021.

The Calgary-based airline company also has an option to buy the additional 10 Dreamliners, which are to be delivered between 2020 and 2024.
