The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in Maine, of New Hampshire and Vermont have litigated, the federal government on May 8, for its alleged failure to supply the records of immigration enforcement since President trump took office.
The lawsuit filed by the civil right groups, has named the U.S Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S Customs and Border protection (CBP), and U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which claims that the authorities have failed to comply with a freedom of information act for the records of raids, arrests and detentions.
The representative of these three federal agencies reported that, they didn’t remark on pending judicial proceedings
They claimed that people have the right to know about the immigration enforcement actions taken, said attorney of ACLU, Maine Emma Bond, also added saying that “They’re going to courthouses. They’re targeting community groups. They’re engaging in racial profiling. This is just the tip of the iceberg, we think.” in a press release.
As per the complaint raised, immigration arrests increased about 38 percent, across the country and 50 percent in the New England states, in the first 100 days of Trump’s term of office.
The right to freedom of information request for has record as far as back in 2017.
