Student gives up gold medal over CAA, asked to leave the convocation

Rabeena Abdurehim, a student of the Pondicherry University claimed that she was prevented from attending the convocation ceremony which was held on Monday. The chief guest of the ceremony was President Ram Nath Kovind.

The student being from Kerala who has done her Masters course in Mass Communication has also refused to accept the gold medal as she expressed harmony along with the students who were protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act. She alleged that she had be asked to leave the auditorium by a senior police officer before the convocation commenced.

She said that she had no idea about the reason behind the police officer asking her to leave the auditorium and that she was allowed to enter after the President left where the ceremony was still continuing and giving away of the certificates and gold medals to the outgoing graduates was still taking place.

University official handed the certificates and the medals as the convocation ceremony was continued after President Ram Nath Kovind left the ceremony.

The President has participated in the 27th convocation of the Pondicherry University which was in the midst of a boycott which was done over the newly amended law by the members of the student council.
