The Indian and Chinese troops have been engaging in a standoff in multiple areas along the LAC since May.

India’s foreign minister S. Jaishankar recently paid a visit to Moscow to meet his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and the meeting has proven to be successful.

Both countries have mutually agreed upon certain points which will reduce the border tensions in the coming days.

The two countries agreed to the plan on Thursday in Moscow on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meet.

The Indian army and the Chinese troops have been locked down in a military standoff along various areas of LAC since May and in recent times the tensions have been escalated.

The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on Friday featuring five points that were mutually agreed upon by both the countries in the discussion between the two ministers.

Jaishankar and Wang agreed that both the countries must take guidance from the consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries on developing the relations between Indian and China which includes that the differences should not become disputes.

The two foreign ministers have agreed that the present situation along the border is not in the interest of both the countries.

They agreed that the border troops of both the sides should continue their dialogue, quickly disengage from the disputes, maintain proper distance, and ease the tensions.

The decisions were taken keeping in mind the viewpoints discussed between PM Narendra Modi and Chinese PM Xi Jinping at the summits of 2018 and 2019.

The two ministers have agreed to the point that both the countries will abide by all the existing agreements and protocols on the India and China border affairs. They also agreed to maintain tranquility and peace along the border areas.

Both the troops will avoid any action that could escalate into further tensions.

In the talks, Jaishankar and Wang agreed that as the situation eases along the border, the two sides will expedite work to maintain peace and tranquility and will also encourage new confidence-building measures.

India and China have agreed to continue to have dialogue and communication through a Special representative mechanism on the India and China border condition.

In their discussions, they also concluded that the working mechanism of consultation and coordination of India and China border affairs must be discussed in their every official meeting.

These 5 points come as a major hope for both the countries amid the escalating tensions at the Pangong lake at the eastern Ladakh. This move should definitely stop any chaos that is imminent between the troops.
