Bharat Bandh: Farmers Block Highways Across India

Marking the first anniversary of the controversial Farm Laws that are introduced by the government of India, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) called for a Bharat Bandh today across the country. Several political parties supported the bandh. The farmers protested against the government for more than 100 days at the border of New Delhi. The government of India held talks with the farmer unions but they were unsuccessful. Farmers across the country blocked the national highways and the bandh is intense in Punjab, Haryana and New Delhi. The autorickshaws and taxis are operating normally and the shops, businesses are asked to be shut for the day.

The Bharat Bandh started at 6 AM and it will continue till 4 PM. All the national highways along with the link roads and train routes are blocked in Punjab and Haryana. Tight security is imposed all over to prevent unwanted incidents to take place. Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) wanted the government and private offices, educational institutions, industries and other commercial establishments to be closed for the day. All the people attending personal emergencies are exempted. Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) assured that the bandh will take place on a peaceful note. The governments of Punjab, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu declared to support the Bharat Bandh. Congress announced that the leaders of the party will participate in the bandh.
