Supreme Court Fumes at Delay in Mining Baron Gali Janardhan Reddy's Trial

Mining baron and BJP leader Gali Janardhan Reddy has been facing allegations of illegal mining and money laundering cases. These cases are under investigation and he has been out on bail. The Supreme Court questioned about the delay in 12 years in the proceeding of the trial calling it a serious offence. The Supreme Court demanded a report from the trial judge on why the matter was not proceeded. A bench of justices led by MR Shah and Krishna Murari said that the trial cannot be delayed and it is a travesty of justice. The bench called it unfortunate that the trial in CC No 1 of 2012 are pending before the Principal Special Judge of CBI in Hyderabad from the past 12 years.

The Supreme Court asked them to plan the next hearing on September 20th. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the cases of Gali Janardhan Reddy from 2009. The Bench also asked the Special Judge to submit a sealed cover to the Supreme Court informing about the stage of trial and the reason for the delays. Gali Janardhan Reddy was granted bail in 2015 January. The court barred him to stay away from Karnataka's Bellary and other neighbouring districts of Anantapuram and Kadapa. The bar was also lifted in August 19th, 2021. CBI yesterday told the Supreme Court that there was no much progress in the case.
