Veteran actress turned politician Jayapradha lands in legal trouble. The Egmore court in Chennai has announced 6 months of imprisonment along with ₹ 5000/- fine for the actress along with her two partners for not remitting ESI ( employee state insurance).

Jayapradha along with two other partners Ram Kumar and Raja Babu had a theatre in Chennai, which was eventually closed after seeing losses. Jayapradha and her partners deducted ESI from their salaries at the time of operations and later failed to repay it either to the employees or to the state insurance account. The trio even failed to clear the ESI contribution to its staff after the closure. Employees have approached the court seeking legal help.

Jayapradha requested the court to settle the amount owned by the staff. But the Egmore court dismissed her plea and sentenced imprisonment and fine. Now Jayapradha will challenge in Madras high court against the order passed by Egmore court and also will seek a bail petition.

The actress is currently staying away from politics. She was elected as a Member of parliament two times, To the lower house between 2004 to 2014 and to Rajya Sabha between 1996- 2002. She started her political career by joining TDP in 1994.
