The Noida International Airport recently conducted its first successful flight validation test, paving the way for its operations to commence next year. An IndiGo plane took off from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, carrying only crew members, and safely landed on the Noida airport's runway after necessary security checks. The airport, located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, aims to become operational in April 2023, serving as the second major airport in the National Capital Region after the IGI airport. The Civil Aviation Minister hailed this as a prestigious achievement, while the Noida International Airport CEO acknowledged the collaborative efforts of various authorities in completing the project in record time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the Jewar Airport in November 2021.

The Uttar Pradesh government has commissioned the construction of a new airport that will cover an area of 1,334 hectares. In its first phase, the airport is expected to accommodate 1.2 crore passengers annually, and this figure is projected to rise to 3 crore by the end of the decade and further to 7 crore in the following years. Initially, the airport will have one operational runway, 10 aerobridges, and three bus gates, with plans to expand to two runways and 200 aircraft parking spots as the number of flights and passengers increases. The airport is connected to nearby cities like Greater Noida, Noida, and Delhi via the Yamuna Expressway. It has been designed as a gateway to popular tourist destinations in North India, including the Taj Mahal, as well as Hindu pilgrimage sites like the Chardham Yatra, Kumbh Mela, Mathura, Vrindavan, and the Buddhist circuit of Sravasti, Kapilavastu, and Kushinagar.
