Sam Altman, who is the head of OpenAI, will meet with students at IIT Delhi on February 20, during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. This event is happening from February 16 to 20 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Altman will talk with Vinod Khosla from Khosla Ventures, and there will be a session where students can ask him questions. The event will start at 10:30 AM in Dogra Hall and will discuss the fast changes in AI, its effects around the world, and how it can change different industries. Only those who are registered members of the IIT Delhi community and special guests can take part. The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is the first major global AI summit held in the Global South and it gathers leaders from around the world, policy makers, CEOs, and innovators to discuss how AI can support fair growth, governance, and sustainable development. The summit is set to involve many important participants, including 15-20 government leaders, more than 50 international ministers, and over 40 CEOs from both global and Indian companies.
The discussions will be organized into seven key "Chakras" or Working Groups that concentrate on important topics: Human Capital, Inclusion for Social Empowerment, Safe and Trusted AI, Science, Resilience & Efficiency, Democratizing AI Resources, and AI for Economic Development & Social Good. These groups are working to turn AI advances into practical policies and solutions that can tackle both global and local issues. India is becoming a major center for AI talent and inclusive innovation. Government programs like IndiaAI FutureSkills are helping thousands of students and researchers, and platforms such as BHASHINI and Kisan e-Mitra use AI to improve social inclusion and service delivery in various languages and regions. Some of the top technology leaders from around the world are expected to gather in India for the India AI Impact Summit 2026, highlighting India's increasing role in the global AI landscape. Leaders like Google CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis, and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon are among those who will participate.
This will be Sam Altman's first trip abroad in nearly a year. Even though Altman is not currently listed as a main speaker on the summit's public schedule, there are indications that OpenAI is planning private meetings during the event. There are also rumors of a possible separate OpenAI session on February 19 that would provide more chances for interaction.
