Indian cricket player Rinku Singh's father, Khanchand Singh, passed away on Friday after battling stage-four cancer. He was receiving treatment at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, and his health deteriorated earlier this week. Rinku, who is with the team for the T20 World Cup, went to see him before the game against Zimbabwe. Sadly, his father's health did not get better, and he was placed on a ventilator. Rinku made it back in time for the game but was not included in the starting lineup, as Sanju Samson took his place. Nevertheless, he participated in the match as a substitute fielder. Rinku's father was a significant influence in his life and provided great support throughout his cricket journey. He worked as a gas cylinder deliveryman in Aligarh, and despite financial struggles, he ensured that Rinku had every chance to succeed in cricket.
Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh shared his condolences on social media, expressing his “deepest thoughts and prayers” for the family. In a post on X, Harbhajan stated, "I was saddened to hear about the passing of Shri Khanchand Singh Ji, Rinku Singh's father. This must be an especially hard time for Rinku and his family, even though he remains devoted to his duties during the T20 World Cup. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. I hope Waheguru grants eternal peace to the departed soul and gives strength and courage to the grieving family. ” Rinku’s performance in the T20 World Cup has been underwhelming, as he has only managed to score 24 runs in 5 innings. Although he entered the tournament after performing well, he hasn’t had many chances to play a substantial innings, leading to his replacement by Samson. The Indian cricket team will head to Kolkata for their last Super 8 match against the West Indies. This game will essentially serve as a quarterfinal, with the winner securing a spot in the semifinals after India's victory over Zimbabwe and the West Indies suffering a significant loss to South Africa.
