Sharad Pawar, a prominent figure in Maharashtra politics for over six decades, hinted at retiring from electoral politics. He stated that he would not contest any future elections and would instead focus on mentoring the younger generation. At 83 years old, Pawar indicated that the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls would be his last before stepping away from active politics. He expressed his intention to serve and work for the people, but acknowledged the need to make way for the new generation. Pawar, who has been elected 14 times since becoming an MLA in 1967, emphasized his principle of bringing forward the next generation of leaders.
Pawar clarified that he has not left social work, but he does not want power. He will continue to serve and work for the people. Pawar is a skilled politician who has supporters from various political parties. He served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra four times and held important positions like Defence and Agriculture in the UPA government. Pawar formed the NCP in 1999, but the party faced a split in 2023 when his nephew Ajit Pawar created a separate faction. A year ago, Pawar dismissed retirement rumors, stating that he is "neither tired nor retired," responding to Ajit Pawar's suggestion that he should retire due to his age. Pawar said that the people have made him the Chief Minister four times, and he has worked in Maharashtra for 25 years before moving on. Now, it's time to prepare for the future and groom leadership that will work for the next 30 years.
