Pakistan Puts Obligation Back On India: NSA-Level Talks

Pakistan said that it was prepared without any pre conditions for NSA-level talks, putting obligation back on India. This came when all the signs continued to indicate that the meeting is unlikely to happen.

Sartaj Aziz Pakistan national security adviser is scheduled to travel on Sunday to New Delhi for talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval.

"Cancellation (of the talks) is yet to be confirmed from either side. Therefore, we are ready to go as per schedule without any pre-condition," Aziz said.

The possibility of NSAs meeting is remote as there is no chance of India changing its stand on no role of separatist Hurriyat in talks between India and Pakistan.

Aziz said in a press conference at the Foreign Office that, "The statement of Indian external affairs ministry that Pakistan has imposed new conditions totally ignores the last sentence in the note handed over to the Indian high commission that Pakistan is ready to hold NSA-level talks without any pre-conditions.”

"In fact, it is India that has imposed new conditions that Pakistan cannot meet Hurriyat leaders, assuming the right to determine the guest list of for the high commissioner's reception," he said.
