Just recently, a Pakistan International Passenger Plane carrying 91 passengers and 8 crew members crashed in a densely populated residential area in Karachi.

The flight, Flight PK8303 crashed right before it was about to land in the busy Jinnah International Airport.

The provincial health minister of the country has reported 11 casualties till now but the death toll is feared to be a lot more than that. The reports from the eye witnesses around said that at least one passenger survived the crash.

The Model Colony area, where the crash happened, witnessed bursts of thick black smoke emitting.

Several of the TV footage highlight the rescue crews combing through the disaster and the debris lying around the street. The area was just 3.2 km north east of the airport where the flight was supposed to land.

The plane lost contact with the air traffic control just around 14:30 local time of Pakistan.

One of the eyewitnesses, Mohammed Uzair Khan reported that he heard a loud crash and stepped out of his house to check what the problem was.

"Almost four houses were completely collapsed, there was so much fire and smoke. They are almost my neighbours, I can't tell you what a horrible thing it was,” said Khan.

Dr Kanwal Nazim reported to BBC Urdu that all she witnessed  was people screaming and thick black clouds of black smoke in the surrounding area. The same was predominantly coming from three houses adjoining a mosque.

The CM of Sindh, where the crash happened, alerted all the hospitals in Pakistan with a state of emergency.

The investigators are still working to analyse the actual cause of the crash. The PIA Executive Chief Air Vice Marshal Arshad Malik reported that the pilot had already suggested and alerted the air traffic control that the plane was experiencing some sort of technical difficulties.

In the conversation recorded, the pilot can be heard telling that the plane had lost two engines followed by the remarks of “Mayday Mayday Mayday” after which they lost connection completely.

The Sindh provincial government reported that Zafar Masud, the Bank of Punjab President who was inside the flight had sustained and survived the crash.

Pakistan PM Imran Khan reported that he is extremely shocked and saddened by the event and is going to conduct an immediate investigation to find the cause of the crash.

The crash happened just a few days after the country resumed its commercial flight services. While Pakistanis are preparing for end of the Ramadan, several of them are flying back to their own homes and villages to celebrate the festival with their families.

This incident comes off as a state of shock and brings in a lot of sadness among the citizens.
