Karnataka government announces 14 days lockdown to battle coronavirus

Karnataka is one among the most impacted states of the country due to coronavirus. The state government has been trying hard to bring things to a control but the new cases reported continued to be high. The government today announced that the state would be under strict lockdown for the next 14 days starting from 6 PM on Tuesday to reduce the number of coronavirus cases and break the chain. The state's Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced that all the essential commodities will be available in the state from 6 AM to 10 AM and that all the vehicles carrying the essentials will be allowed in the state. The upcoming polls in the state are pushed for three more months. The government also allowed the home delivery of alcohol.

BS Yediyurappa also announced that the state would vaccinate all the people above the age of 18 years for free starting from May 1st. Chief Minister told that strict lockdown will be implemented in the state from tomorrow. A three-hour-long cabinet meeting took place after which the decision was taken. The sectors of agriculture, medicine manufacturing and the construction sector will continue to operate during the lockdown time. An expert committee was formed and the cabinet approached the committee after which the final decision was made. BS Yediyurappa said that there is no shortage for oxygen in the state and Karnataka needs 300-800 metric tonnes of oxygen currently.
