Call it God's grace or whatever you may, it's found that spiritual people have thicker brains that makes them resistant to depression and other mental illnesses.

Believers and faithfuls have 'thicker' sections of brain tissue than atheists that makes brain resilient to depression.

Being religious changes the brain in a physical way, thanks to thick cortices. Cortical thickness and have been found to be genetically and phenotypically independent.

While it's unclear if people with thick cortices are only the spiritual kind, it has been established that religious people do have thicker cortices and have better chances of surviving mental illnesses.
