Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s ODI skipper, said that he will be seen on the field in action as early as October. He described Sachin Tendulkar as a role model. Humility and passion of Tendulkar was an inspiration to him and team as well, Dhoni said. He added that the iconic batsman was like God to us all.

During the interaction of Dhoni with the Indian community in a reception in New Jersey in his honor by the Bihar Jharkhand Association of North America, the Indian ODI skipper said, “When we were growing up, Sachin was like God to all of us. He had that aura around him.”

“Every time he turned up on the field, he wanted to improve as a cricketer. I felt he was an ideal person to look up to and that is what we did,” said Dhoni.

Resolution to Dhoni

Dhoni was even honored during the reception with a resolution in his name, which lauded him for the milestones and achievements in cricket. Atul Huckoo, Edison (New Jersey) Cricket Club President presented the resolution to Dhoni. He was honored as ‘one of the greatest finishers in limited-overs cricket’.

The resolution said: “By virtue of his leadership skills, outstanding conduct and character, humility and aversion to seeking publicity off the field, Dhoni has become an inspiration to children of all ages around the world.”
