Rafael Nadal might not have expected his worst ever performance and a defeat in the hands of a player whom he has stunned 17 times with extraordinary work.

Seventh seeded, Tomas Berdych, won 6-2 6-0 7-6 (7-5) over third seed and the 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal.

"It feels great," said Berdych. "The really good thing is the plan that we put together was the right one.

"Everything was working. I was able to execute it really well. But still, until the last point you can't think about anything else.

With this astonishing win he will face next level match either with Andy Murray or Nick Kyrgios in the last four.

The Czech, recently engaged, could not have been happier after shedding all that baggage, and in a fittingly important setting.

Berdych credited his success to new coach Dani Vallverdu, who earlier worked with Andy Murray.
