Zomato, the online food ordering platform has introduced period leaves for women and transgender employees for 10 days a year ti build more inclusive work environment.

Online restaurant guide and food ordering platform Zomato has started a new policy for all the female and transgender employees in the company.

Each menstruating woman in Zomato can take one leave per menstrual cycle starting this month, the company confirmed.

In other words, all the women and transgenderemployees can take 10 period leaves for a year. This move was brought into fore by Zomato to provide more inclusive, and trustable culture in the company.

According to Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal, the company wants to build trust, acceptance and foster a culture of truth and support. He wrote in his blog post saying that he understands the menstrual pains that lot of women go through during their cycle.

He also expressed that men and women are born with different biological realities and the company and other employees need to support women employees to build a truly collaborative culture at Zomato.

He also said to the women employees that there shouldn't be any stigma attached to applying for a period leave whenever necessary.

In a note for male employees in the blog, he mentioned that their women employees expressing that they are on a period leave should not be uncomfortable for men working at the company.

The female employees must feel free to tell people on the internal groups or mails if they need a period leave, the CEO wrote.

However, the company also stressed the employees to not abuse these leaves and use them as a chance to complete their other pending works.

Many software and tech companies across the globe have this scheme of paid leaves for menstruating women but this policy is not famous among the Indian companies.

Zomato has earlier fired some of its employees as the company plunged into losses due to lack of business during the lockdown.

However, after the Unlock 1 started in India from June, the company came back into form and also started rolling out full salaries to all its employees.

Many companies and start ups have suffered heavily due to the coronavirus pandemic and the unemployment rate in India has reached a new high.

However, now that the companies are back in business, the economy of India is seeing a growth lately.
