Huffington Post has named Congress president Sonia Gandhi as the 12th richest politician in the world.

With a staggering bank balance of $2 billion, Sonia Gandhi is even richer than the British Queen Elizabeth II, Sultan of Oman Qaboos bin Said and Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

The American online news aggregator company made a list after juxtaposing each country's GDP per capita with a leader's personal net worth to reveal 'how different life is for the haves and have-nots'.

The list includes names of various kings, presidents, sultans and queens across the globe.

The list is topped by Russian President Vladimir Putin with a wealth of $40 billion, followed by King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej with fortunes worth $30 billion.
